Hey Chess friends :)

i have a match tommorow ..and i dont know what is the best reply after e4 d5 e*d nf6

Chess_Princess2013

cool so what variation do u play...n.b am more into tactic & open positions rather than closed & strategical

The "best reply" is whatever line works for YOU. Go to the Game Explorer here and my advice is to start out playing the most popular move or one of the most popular moves that strikes your fancy each time it's your turn to move. If you have any opening books and/or DBs check them out too, and try playing through some GM games with your own sources and/or the Game Explorer. I'm sure there's a better way to learn openings but the good old "trial and error" method seems to work for me.

As for being greedy in the openings that rarely works for me, I prefer being a pawn down with a strong initiative to being a pawn up with a difficult position to develop and/or defend.

You could also try playing the Scandinavian Defense yourself which I think would be a win-win situation: If it works for you, great. If it doesn't work for you, you'll start to get some ideas on how to proceed against it.

GOOD LUCK!

When you don't know what to play, wait for an idea to come into your opponent's mind. You may be sure that idea will be wrong.

@lord..thank u 4 participating...i just wondered what if the opponent goes 4 the modern bg4 ..it is kinda coomplicated..

@nimzo...many thanks 4 that gr8 advice & help...i do really appreciate that...okay i will do what u said...n.b i do play scandinavian :$..and that was the problem actually...coz am playing an opponent 4rm the same team n the coach never told us the v best reply to avoid discrimination esp when playing in an important tournament against each other..so the line after e4 d5 e*d nf6 d4 bg4,,,is kinda irritating and dunno its plans 4 white or the best cont. as i always regarded it 4rm black's point of view

actually cz if white did err at any point the black has alot of action & attack...so what after f3 bf5??shall i play bb5+ or c4 at once?
DrSpudnik

I recommend Bb5+ and if he plays Bd7, back off to c4. Don't fuss too much over the pawn plus and just try to develop.

I used to try the c4 (Panov attempt) but eventually, Black started playing e6 and getting way too much development for the pawn. The Bishop trick just derails Black's planned efforts. Get him away from what he wants.
