What is the best varitation in the Sicilian?

Can you write to me the moves of the Najdorf?

kosmeg

There is not such a thing like best variation. It's all a matter of taste.

Well, it certainly isn't the dragon! I've just witnessed the refutations myself!

If you'd like to see these refutations and many other excellent videos on chess, why not try becoming premium? It's relatively cheap and the benefits are enormous!

NOTE: Videos are only available unlimited to diamond memberships.

For those of you lucky enough to be able to see such videos, here are the links to these excellent instructionals by GM Dzindzichashvili:

I wish I had a fiver for every time the Dragon was refuted over the last 40-50 years, but it keeps coming back Smile (No, I don't play it myself but plenty of players do very well with it even at GM level)

As hansel wrote, the Najdorf goes 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cd 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6.  It is certainly the most popular variation of the Sicilian.  Two other popular lines are the Taimanov 2...Nc6 3.d4 cd 4.Nxd4 e6 and the Classical 2...d6 3.d4 cd 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Nc6.  All of these lines are fairly sound, so partly it is a matter of taste.

Kasparov plays the Scheveningen a lot.

It's definately either the Najdorf or the Dragon.  However, neither has clearly been proven as superior to the other, and the debate continues...

Ummm... I am almost sure the Najdorf is better than the dragon, atleast from a theoretical standpoint. It has already been mentioned that the dragon has been close to refuted a few times, I don't think the Najdorf has suffered this humility. This doesn't really matter though for most of us. Learn whatever sicilian you like, study your own games in it, and the theory, and over time you will almost certainly know it better than most of your opponents.
