What is your opinion on the Scotch opening?

Because the italian has a fried liver, and the ruy lopez is cool bc gms play it. Same can be said about the ponziani. Nobody plays it altho it is solid.

play it, if you like it. it is just a matter of if and when either side wishes to exchange a set of center pawns. Personally, I like to play 2...,d6 or 1e4,d6 and avoid all of the 2...,Nc6 games.
I think it's because everyone starts with the Italian and everyone has success with it straight from the start so they don't feel the need to change it.

Yea. Italian is too op at the beginner level

Speaking from experience, the classical where we play c3 gets Very problematic after Nf3 as black has 3 pieces developed to our one and he is X raying the knight to the f2 pawn.

Hi! I think the Scotch is a fine opening and not easy to counter. Perhaps it lost some popularity at Master level because with accurate play Black levels the game, especially after 4...Nf6.
Good luck!

i tried it a long time ago and was just unable to click with it and returned to king's gambit.
I want to try the danish gambit though because it has stonger stats than either line and when 1 GM stated that its whole purpose is to relentlessly attack black before he can castle. I decided it might be worth a try with my 5% or so losing stats in KG.

goring has better stats!
I was trying to decide between that and the danish and it looks like the danish has slightly better stats AND, if I remember right, can transpose into strong goering lines

Because Black just equalizes instantly and White's position is a lot harder to play. Take the "mainlines" as one example.
Kasparov played the Scotch at top levels.
