I have been experimenting with this opening but I have no clue what it is called or if there is a name for it. If anybody knows please tell me. I start off with f2-f4.

Unless black opens with e7-e5 my next move is knight g1-f3.

Ideally My Side will look like this before any pieces leave the table

From step two of my opening I take control of the center and the game. Well of course I have not mastered this opening I'm only on day 1 of it. But it's nice!

Do some research under "Bird's" Opening.......Black can reply 1...f5 to 1. d4...and this becomes a Dutch Defense (often played by Botvinnik)...interesting opening/defense!!!!!!

Yeh, Bird's Opening:-

1 f4 d5 2 Nf3 according to the Blue Book of Charts to Winning Chess white has won 51% of games...not much of an advantage, and if Black replies 2....g3 Black has the advantage at 53%...so they say.

Ahh yes Thank You ... "Bird" Kool never heard of it before I am still new to learning in depth. Its a fun  opening if you can walk a tight rope. Cause thats what it feels like at times. 1 mistake and its a disaster but get it right and she's a beaut

I have my own chess league check it out. Its to help me and others like me learn.

If you like an opening then you have an advantage. Speculative openings are good for complications and combinations...you either go up like a rocket, or fall like a stick. Either way it is good fun. That's why I have gone off the Ruy Lopez and gone for the English opening - 1 c4....a bit like yours only on the queen side. A little bit safer I think.

cheers

The third diagram you have there is basically a Colle - Zukertort system usually arrived at by 1.d4

Yeh, I got this book, The Blue Book of Charts to Winning Chess by Arthur M. Stevens, published 1972, decades ago before chess engines and the like. He's probably long dead now, bless him.

He compiled statistical analysis of 56,972 actual tournament games by the world's greatest masters, a lifetime's work. He gives winning percentages for every move for every opening in every variation...449 pages, similar to 'Game Explorer'. The names of 92 openings, the variations and gambits are given, including the Orang-Utang!and the names of the players in the games where the openings were used.

For the first moves he gives:-

1 e4      28639 games   7042 draws  59% win

1 d4      22459    "        3977    "      60%   "

1 Nf3      1837    "          535    "      57%   "

1 c4        2878   "           767    "     60%    "

1 f4          628   "           131    "     53%    "

1 b4         212   "            48     "     66%    "

1 g3           90   "            23     "     61%    "

1 g4           75   "             9     "      77%   " (Grob's Opening or the Spike Attack)

1 Nc3         28   "             5     "      48%

It's a good book and a massive work. But, like blessing yourself before a fight, it won't help if you can't play. Mind you, it will probably stop you making stupid opening moves.

The book is still available for sale on the net.

You can see that obscure openings, like Grob's, have a high winning % because few people come up against them. However the statistical sample is too small to be relied upon. It also may favour tactical players.

1.f4 is named Bird opening, but the set-up you reach at the end is closer to a Stonewall attack.
