King's Indian Attack,or a variation of the Réti, begins with the move 1.Nf3.
It's a very attacking and risky opening .
The Catalan, starting with d4,involves the light bishop fianchetto . Catalan is also very strategic and it focuses on the centre. So,which opening should be prepared for OTB tournaments,KIA or Catalan?
The king's indian attack is more a setup than a real opening. The Catalan is a fine opening, but I believe at the highest levels some lines turn drawish, there is a "Catalan endgame" that is very hard for white to prove anything with.
