can you show a diagram of the london?
i am very confused. :)
The London can be played against any system, not just 1. ... d5. I don't like playing against it either.

I tend to agree with you coach, but equality doesn't necessarily mean a draw at best for white. I think its a system that is difficult to play against because people (playing Black) can achieve equality somewhat easily. So studying it deeply just doesn't happen and relatively high rated players don't know theory well.
Hello. I haven't seen the London System really played anywhere much. Why? What's so bad about it? I'm thinking about adopting it as a pet line. Would you recommend it? Thanks.
Nothing wrong with the London system, it's safe, you'll get many points if you use it, but it could be hard to win for both.
What opening to chose, depends on what kind of games you like.
Use a base, search for top level games with the London, if you like that kind of positions, use it!
i have played the london system quite a few times with great effect ... i may not know all the lines to it but it can be lethal ...
here is one game where i played the london system and won

i would say its not seen often these days because the top level GM's dont play it. its trickle down opening theory, every plays what the GM's play. i dont know any "theory" on the london, it might have an established reputation amongst the top players as an "inferior" opening for whatever reasons. i say play what feels right for you.
nice win blackfirestorm666!
I used to play an opening like this called the Barry Attack as far as i know. It worked very effectively against low level players like in the minors (under 1200) where people didnt know theory/openings well.
1.Pd4 Pd5 2. Bc4 Nf6 3. Nc3 Nc6 4. Nb4 and as far as i remember i won most of my games with this in my younger (lower rated) days. But as i gained more experience i quickly realised it is ineffective against high rated players, who know some bit of opening/theory and have more experience. I stopped playing this along time ago, but i would recommend it to lower rated players, as good set up, and even if it doesnt work out as i have outlined above, you get atleast an equal game as white, with several developed pieces etc.
