why e4

b=Bongcloud
not funny at all
It's certainly not a riot, but it is at least a little funny.

Are you asking , why play e4 or are you asking what other choices are there to e4? and what are the advantages and disavantages?
You play e4 to control directly one of the central squares.
You play e4 to enable your bishop in e2 to develop and enable castling on the king side, after you move your knight out from g1 to f3 or e2, and to control one square in the center of the board, thereby preventing your opponent to make a silly move to counter your move.
You play e4 because you know the opening moves and continuations.
You play e4 as you want to play a tactical game with many refinements.
You play e4 because that is all you know!
i know more
- I could use knights any pawn
- I KNOW A LOT!!!

What are you even trying to tell us? The purpose of this thread eludes me.
why do we do e4

invar .. it is good for those who are new to chess.
fookatook .. no, not even a little bit funny, sorry. (lol jk jk)
[the only opening i know is e4.. just that one move, after that, it is all made up. I know I should study to get better, but I'm scared the game won't be fun anymore if I am playing a script of learned moves...]

do i care about chess and not jokes ...
hmmm
i would answer that, but I'm a little scared of you now so I'm just going to keep it to myself.
@tanishq91: The information is much appreciated, but to many of us here on chess.com, why 1.e4 is played (or any other opening move for that matter) is common knowledge (that's why you see all the random jokes being thrown around). We wouldn't be on chess.com if we weren't chess players...

u could join to learn how to play

Who says I was joking? I play 1.e4 to get into the Bongcloud Opening 2.Ke2!!
oops,sorry
o

I think e4 ensures dynamic play.
of course playing e4 you have to prepare against virutally every opening there is france, pirc, Caro Kann, Owen, Scandinavian, sicilian( the reason most players avoid e4) as opposed to c4 where you only have to study english and Caro Cann if c6 is played.
I play e4 to control the center and be able to castle as quickly as possible. I think you can develop your pieces pretty logically and control the center. I don't fear any opening I play against them and learn.
In abc of chess c= centralize
