Why is the Closed Ruy Lopez more popular the the Open Ruy Lopez?

Usually when I watch top level games, they usually end up with the closed ruy lopez, and according to the database, this is more popular too, why?

its because when someone plays e5 at an high level they're looking for a quick draw. In general if a player wants piece activity at the cost of a structural deficit they will play the Sicilian and not e5

The open variation is still very popular at all levels, including with the elite.  The closed Lopez covers the Marshall, Chigorin, Breyer, Zaitsev, Keres, etc though.  So comparing the open to the closed is comparing one variation to a dozen others.

The open Ruy Lopez is more forcing and has been analysed thoroughly. In the closed Ruy Lopez there are more slow maneuvres.
