Wing Gambit

The Wing gambit is a general term for exchanging a Bpawn for a Cpawn. This can occur mainly from the Sicilian Defense, English Opening and French Defense. It aims for the gambiteer's colour to strive for the centre.

In the case of the Sicilian, it looks interesting. The most common responses to 1 c5 are 2 Nf3.   2 Nc3. 2 d4. 2 c3. 2 f4.

2 b4 however looks to be interesting and EXTREMELY unexpected. It is an anti-Sicilian that many are unaware of, and looks a good response. To people very new to the Sicilian, it can cause a rush of panic and confusion. (see my article on Gambit Psychology.)

In conclusion, if anybody knows a bit of info on this opening, or has something to share about this or other anti-Sicilians, then please comment!

Um...I'm not sure. It looks like a pretty strong move. Until I learn more about the opening, I'd just go along with a normal Sicilian move like Nf3.

I play the Wing Gambit against the French and have so for about 30 years. It has brought me very good OTB results. I do not like it as much against the Sicilian as Black has not locked in the e6-d5 pawn structure and can get pretty good play
