wondering about an opening

Hi,

I was wondering about this:

I play white and open 1.e4 to which black answers 1...e5

now i want to play 2.c4 in order to then play Bd3 and then Bc2, so that my bishop will be secure and ready to dominate the diagonal, with an option for me to place my queen in front of it on d3.

i looked in the "game explorer" feature on this site but saw that this is never played, so i guess it has some serious draw backs.

if anyone could point these drawbacks out to me i would appreciate it

Thanks!

Well, the most obvious drawback is that it takes up a lot of time with little compensation. You're spending three moves to develop a piece. That is not good. 2.Nf3 develops a piece, and attacks your opponent's pawn, forcing them to respond. After the likely 2.Nc6(An alternative is 2.d6), you have many wondeful places to put your bishop such as the ever popular 3.Bb5, or slightly less popular but still very good Bc4.
