Thank you too, super admin. At the moment we have around 20 persons living here (most farang) interested. We will let you know the news.

Thank you all.
I have breaking news about the Chess Club and the School.
The first official Chess School of Thailand will open in Pattaya on 25 of may, 2009.
Leader of the school will be Grand Master Gerhard Schebler, from Germany.
His wife will manage the organization Courses in english, german, dutch will be offered for individuals/groups if there is an interest. We are still working on courses in Thai.

I'm just curious about Chess in Thailand. Do people still play Makrook in Thailand? Is Chess taking over? Will people at a Chess club in Thailand play both games, or just Chess?

In fact, in Thailand Makrook (or Thai chess) is well known and played. The problem is the opposite. Chess (international chess) is almost unknown here... We only have one official club (in Bangkok). And now here in Pattaya people meet on tuesday. But players are 99 % farang (foreigners). Very difficult to find thai players. Even here on chess.com, Thai team is a little team (and many are foreingers). Me too I learned chess in europe...
Thanks for the reply.
It's good to know there is still some diversity in the Chess world. It's hard to find a Makrook player here, but I have managed to play a couple of games against human opponents.

What's the lasted about this School of chess?
GM Gerhard Schebler created a lot of excitement at this weekend's tournament. I'm convinved he is an excellent chess coach, not just a good player!

Thanks for the reply.

Chess is fun. On chess.com it can break down some barriers between countries. It can even create new relationships that would never exist by some other medium. Glad their is chess in Thailand. Sure some people will find the game more interesting with a GM availabe in their chess club.
