AI Chess Players

Many people know human chess players, but my knowledge lies in the AIs within the chess world, partly because I am new to this side of the chess world; it's a little more formal and serious than what I'm used to (and I LOVE that), and partly because my interests lie mainly within AI and robotics.

So, this is the place where one can discuss our formidable computerized competitors, fiction or otherwise (I say 'fiction'mainly because I am a massive HAL9000 fan).

I would imagine most have heard of Deep Blue and his predecessor, Deep Thought.  First, I think I should mention that Deep Thought was the name of the computer in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.  Back to chess, at that time, it was thought that if a computer could beat the world champion at chess that it was truly intelligent.  Unfortunately, when Deep Blue won, people apparently changed their minds about this.  This is unfortunate, as intelligence is not linear, and obviously Deep Blue showed great intelligence when it came to strategizing.  Anyhow, that's what I call my 'AI philosophy ranting', and I shall say no more unless you would like me to.  The point is, Deep Blue is my favorite real-life chess playing AI.  Who is yours?

Houdini 4 is the strongest chess engine as of now. Far stronger than Deep Blue. But the impact that Deep Blue had on the chess and computer world was far greater than Houdini's. So I think it is between them as to which is my favourite. I'll go with Deep Blue for all the drama it caused.
I wonder if GLaDOS could play chess!

Yeah, I mostly like Deep Blue because of the turning point in AI he caused.  As for GLaDOS playing chess, according to the Portal 3 role play I do, she does not like it so much, heh heh.
