Fisher was an extreme introvert , even the sound of cameras was madding to him, the USA treated him very unfairly and hounded him, Hurray for Iceland !
Bobby Fischer's arrogance? Or is he arrogant?

Bahasa Indonesia, like the hell we don't know.
Unless I'm mistaken, your skills in flag identification & grammar need improvement.
And you definitely don't know, but some day you'll understand what I meant. When celebrity is thrust upon someone, it is unfair to assume the affected person would be able to handle it.
Oh oops, sorry about that, you're in Singapore. My second mistake in flags (the first being Poland and Indonesia and now this), anyways, I wasn't trying to offend you in anyway. What I'm saying is that we all know that Fischer was a chess player, not a diplomat. Yet you have to make a pointless comeback commenting on my grammar, its a chess website, who gives about my grammar? i can type without capitalization right now

"They're all weak, all women. They're stupid compared to men. They shouldn't play chess, you know. They're like beginners. They lose every single game against a man. There isn't a woman player in the world I can't give knight-odds to and still beat." Wait, wait, wait. Was he expressing something or was he just another sexist? Women aren't better than man at chess but this quote really disrespected them. "
This is quoted most likely from a Fischer's interview around 1960 and Bobby always told what he thought to be the truth rather blatantly. He would not repeat that in 1990.
"I love the game - and I hate the Russians because they've almost ruined it. They only risk the title when they have to, every three years. They play for draws with each other but play to win against the Western masters. Draws make for dull chess, wins make for fighting chess."
This was said in 1963 after Curasao Pretenders tournament when Petrosian, Geller and Keres agreed to draw all games between them and to save their fighting forces for others, including Korchnoi (who was also a Soviet player that time). That was their personal arrangement. Nothing like this happened at other tournaments.
Of course, Bobby was frustrated about his losses and sounded with bitterness, but he had to understand that he just was not strong enough then."
Wow... That was throught and well said, thanks from the one that Fischer offended.

Dank u achja, you have my respect (for Bobby mostly)
Nice one Dead_Assassin. Dank je wel !
Wow... That photo just touched our hearts (don't lie, it did)

I've recently (which is today, lol) checked on some chess quotes. And I decided to start on the beloved American chess genius, Robert (Bobby of course) Fischer. At first I was amazed by his splendid words UNTIL: "They're all weak, all women. They're stupid compared to men. They shouldn't play chess, you know. They're like beginners. They lose every single game against a man. There isn't a woman player in the world I can't give knight-odds to and still beat." Wait, wait, wait. Oh wait, here's another quote from his mouth: "I love the game - and I hate the Russians because they've almost ruined it. They only risk the title when they have to, every three years. They play for draws with each other but play to win against the Western masters. Draws make for dull chess, wins make for fighting chess." Now its not just sexist but racist? No not racist but please Bobby there's no need to offend the nation with the best players do we?
I don't even know if he was being arrogant or offensive but all we know that he knew whats going on with his life and planned it well and perfect.
I wish people would actually learn what the word "racist" actually means.
Russian is not a race it is a nationality.
I wish people can just answer the question instead of criticizing other's use of words in a chess website. Or I can do something like this, "I said the word, black am I racist enough?"
Anyway, with all his sayings, Bobby Fischer was a very nice person (although somewhat naive), much better than the sociopath and egocentric maniak that is Kasparov.
Is that you, Anatoly?

I never had a drink or soda with him (obviously...who am I ?) so I'll reserve my judgement of him - and I'll poo-poo anything he said in public cuz it's not personal to me....Yasser Seirawan said in his book "No Regrets" that Bobby was a very good person and nothing like the press painted him. And, once a friend, he was your friend for life....just don't talk trash about him behind his back or he'd call off the friendship....as he should.

He had a tendency to say things he could regret (but probably didn't).

Irish dude... Or Blutarsky... Your words... I absolutely have no comment on them at all, I don't know what to say now...

A lot of his contemporary chess players were actually very complimentary of Bobby Fischer, the person.
Whether their views were influenced or not as a result of Fischer's chess ability is debatable.
Boris Spassky for example had very cordial relations with Fischer after 1972 and they appear to have kept in touch until Bobby died.

Still, wishing death and destruction to your native country is very extreme, to say the least. Those who deny The Holocaust e.g. are not pardoned for otherwise being nice to others...
Anyway, is it not a good idea to bring him home to the States again? Everyone seems pleased to have him resting in Iceland, or?

I think Fischer was very lucky to have been able to stay in Iceland. Rumours said, that public opinion was divided in granting him citizenship there. After all, Bobby Fischer was highly controversial and some were afraid of US retaliation.
It is very sad, that such a famous person would be so afraid of his own country. He once said, that he never had been invited to The White House.
The same fate can, perhaps, be said about Alexander Alekhine. He also died far from home, in Portugal. And his home country, Russia or Soviet Union, was hostile to him. GM Botvinnik, though, wanted a World Championship Match with him after WWII ended, so perhaps after all, Alekhine could have been pardoned by The Soviet Chess Federation. We will never know.

Russia was not hostile. The decision that Alekhine could not be blamed for articles in Nazi press was already taken in the Soviet Union and Alekhine knew about it and was preparing for the match with Botvinnik.
There was only some problem with FIDE inspired by BCF. They really pumped that scandal and wished to give the title to Euwe who was planned to play a match with Reshevsky.

Iceland did the right thing by Bobby. It's parliament conferred citizenship on Fischer.
The easy thing to do would have been to acquiesce to American diplomatic pressure. Iceland didn't. I commend Iceland for that decision.
One of the best chess players but walked out ipf games just because there was not enough money
