Chess Movie : Knight Moves

Out of so many movies that are released, based sports; the popular ones like football, basketball, cricket, i was wondering if there existed a movie in chess....so a simple search in wikipedia....i arrived with this movie KNIGHT MOVES.

This movie is directed by Carl Schenkel. It speaks about the life of chess players. Although i expected to learn more about chess but was sort of disappointed because this movie is basically a thriller movie which uses chess only as a tool to set-up the background.

There are enough twists though which kept me engrossed the whole time. My forum selection of Chess Players may not be the best choice but that is the nearest relation i could think of.

As a movie...i'll rate it 4/5 . If u love watching thriller movies ...go fr it . Since it has very much less to do with chess or knights ....almost anybody can watch it and enjoy it with a pack of chips.......good luck.

As a skilled chess player, certainly can not learn some about chess in a movie,it is movie,if it has many profound complicated knowledge about chess,it will be boring for many people.

I have watched some movies about chess, weiqi, shogi and so on,in these movies, board games is just a tool, all the same.

Can you undertand my expression?

I am sorry for my poor English.

If a movie can make millions of people interested in chess and want to learn playing chess,it is a success.

Do you know Qihun? It is a Japanese animation, millions of Japanese,Chinese,Korean watched it and learn to play Weiqi.Push the population of Weiqi to the peak.

Xiong....i completely agree with u ........chess has to be used as a tool in the movie otherwise it wud be indeed very boring. And i'll make sure that i look into Qihun as soon as i find enough time at my disposal.

I watched Knight Moves many years ago - Ben Kingsley is in it and also in the one mentioned Searching for Bobby Fischer, which in UK is called Innocent Moves.  One I saw recently though was a Samuel L Jackson movie, where the chess is a running feature and important to the plot but not the only thing going on:  Fresh.  There is another one with Brigitte Neilson with chess on the cover that I can't name at moment, it has an animated chess scene in it, if I remember right.  So does one of the Harry Potter films of course, not to forget Alice through the looking glass.  Seventh seal is very dry, but its about a knight playing against Death.  A Wonderful Life also I think.
