Hikaru Nakamura or Magnus Carlsen?

Hikaru is a great player, but since Carlsen is the highest rated player in the world, and also the world champion at classical chess, rapid, and blitz, I don't think there's a real question here

At blitz, Hikaru is one of the few players on the planet who can give Magnus a fighting challenge.
In classical, though, as Hikaru said himself a few days ago on stream, he has too much "psychological damage" from Magnus, from so many losses ...

Well, both Hikaru Nakamura and Magnus Carlsen are really good at chess, but most people think Magnus Carlsen is the best player in the world right now.
Magnus Carlsen is from Norway and he's been the World Chess Champion since 2013. He's got the highest rating ever recorded in chess history (2882) and has been ranked as the world's top player for over a decade. He's won lots of international tournaments and is great at playing different openings and winning in the endgame.
Hikaru Nakamura is from the US and he's also had a really successful career, winning tons of national and international tournaments. He's known for being fast and aggressive, especially when he's playing online blitz and bullet chess. But, he hasn't won the World Chess Championship and he hasn't been as consistently dominant at the top of the rankings as Magnus Carlsen has.

... he hasn't been as consistently dominant at the top of the rankings as Magnus Carlsen has.
Nobody has.
Magnus is in a category all his own.
The only fighting comparison to make would be Kasparov, when Kasparov was in his prime ...

Magnus Carlsen is clear in Opening, Endgame, Middlegame, Classical, Blitz, everything... Hikaru is close at making decisions in situations with low time but in general Magnus has achieved so much more it's not even a debate.

I consider Magnus Carlsen as the best player at playing chess, but not the greatest. That would go to Tal. If they played a classical match, Magnus would probably win every game (doubtful they would have a draw but maybe), however Misha was still the Greatest. I won't list why because I assume you already know why I think that, but tell me if you want me to list why.

It's not really a debate.
Needless to say, they're both great. But one has been a World Champion for like 9 or 10 years, one hasn't been a World Champion. Signs point to Carlsen being better.
