How does a player with only 2 games have an elo of over +1600?

I got match requested by him randomly and have never played someone with an elo that high, not ever. I won because they abandoned the game and was disappointed because I was having a good chat with them. I sent them a friend request and looked at their account... only to see that it was created today and had only played 2 games; and yet had a 1600 rating. Can someone explain how this is possible?

When you originally sign up for chess.com, don’t you indicate your skill level and start with the appropriate rating

They had only played 2 games, no default starting is above 1200. Its insane.

they prob chose advanced in when they logged in, instantly increasing their rating. But if you lose your rating drops a ton.

You do 5 training games when you join - if you win the first one you get a high provisional rating

.....

this topic creates confusion among people

chess.com should add an article in support.chess.com about this

no training games

above 1200 starts exist and have existed since i joined (which is like 3 years)

#2 and #4 are correct

new in chess- 400

beginner- 800

intermediate- 1200

advanced-1600

master-2000

and for why the rating graph starts not at these numbers.... the rating graph only shows the rating at the end of the day
