Kasparov & Karpov's relationship now

Does anyone know if these two great champions have "made peace" with one another?  Their rivalry was a bitter one, & then Karpov visited Kasparov when Garry was imprisoned for his political activities. Kasparov then stood along side Karpov when Karpov was running for Fide President. Have they warmed up to one another? Very curious. Reminds me of when Spassky & Korchnoi had bad blood during one of their candidate matches, then years later, joined together for a match & seemed to get along well. I, for one, hope that the two K's are at least on friendly terms for he rest of their careers. Thanks for any info or thoughts!

I believe Karpov is closely associated with Putin while Kasparov is involved with anti-Putin protest so I doubt they meet for tea now and then.

I do remember a year or so ago reading that Karpov came to the jail to release Kasparov after he was detained for organising an anti-government protest though.

Karpov used to say that for him, chess was an end in itself and for

Kasparov it was a means.

I read that Karpov sent Kasparov a chess magazine when he was in prison. I think that was a kind and humane guesture appreciated by Kasparov.

Respect to Kasparov, not only the greatest chess player ever (IMO) but I think truly a brave person, prepared to speak up for what he feels is right.

Some peoples views are more difficult to respect.

I hope they are on good terms -  they are both chess legends. Karpov FTW!

fabelhaft

Back in 1990 they had already played 144 games against each other just in title matches so by then they must have been pretty disgusted just looking over the board. Nowadays their relation seems to be OK even if I doubt they ever will be the greatest of friends.

The forum thread is about Kasparov and Karpov - its not about you.

There's one of those hard to respect views -- since you were asking.

Kasparov is not a woman as far as I know. Karpov... not so sure...

You can really see the strength of their feelings in that last one.

Burke

Karpov attempted to visti Kasparov in prison. Kasparov said, about that, "...his goodwill gesture outweighed all the negative factors which had accumulated during our long years of confrontation." But that was a quote from a book published in 2008.

Karpov always had '' scarier hair ''. & appears to be hanging on to it longer than Kasparov ?

(The true-reason Kasparov retired he knew of Samson...)

Whoever thought Karpov would end up being a bigger guy than Kasparov? lol

Why did he go to prison?
