I just looked up both Carlsen & Kasparovs records & it's very hard to pick one over the other. Magnus is the youngest to ever reach #1 on the rating list but Kasparov held the #1 spot for 255 months. Carlsen is currently at 163 months. Kasparov won 15 tournaments in a row but Carlsen has the record of 125 games without a loss IN TOP LEVEL TOURNAMENTS. The average opponents rating during that unbeaten streak was 2752 I think. Not a bunch of weak players. At one time Carlsen was #1 in classical, rapid, blitz, bullet, AND freestyle all at the same time. But Kasparovs 15 tournament wins in a row is amazing too.
