Walter Browne, who was US champion for many years, made his living as a professional poker player for a while, I believe.

Cool... Thanks for the information!
"Browne has been a professional poker player since the early 1970s.[2] On June 8–11, 2007, he won $189,960 from the World Series of Poker"
Clearly some people are able to make the transition, and do very well. I actually remember thinking it might be a problem when Garry Kasparov was playing against deep blue, and got so flustered by odd things. Poker requires an ability to lose, and ability to put up with insults, foolishness, etc... something grandmasters have to deal with a lot less :)..
Would still love to have any info on Brown, Carlson, or any other GM's poker screen names :)

http://www.coinflip.com/ Grandmaster is GM Sune Berg Hansen, who played table 1 for Denmark this Olympiad. He is also a professional poker player and writing a blog about it.
I think Magnus prefers to be private when he plays poker, so I wouldn't even try to find his alias.
I played chess for many years before transitioning to professional poker, a VERY lucrative passtime... I was interested to read that Magnus in a recent interview said "Sometimes I play online poker"
I am a roughly 1500 rated chess player and am able to make $100k++ plus per year in online poker. I have often wondered what top notch chess players would be able to do in poker (Dan Harrington, a world champion backgammon player and chess master made the transition and is a multi-million $$ winner in poker).. and I also wonder if a guy like Magnus could make far more $ at poker than at chess.
Does anyone have any information on Magnus's poker user/screen names??? I would love to watch him play just to see what a chess player of that caliber can do at the felt (poker table). Would also be interested in info on any other world class chess players that play poker as well.
Thanks.. Any and all responses welcome.. This should be interesting.
To start some controversy.. I actually believe that most advanced players/masters would do very well... but I actually think that some crazy smart GMs.. (the kind that can play 25 game simuls blindfolded and win every match) would have a hard time playing poker, because you have to get inside the minds of ordinary people and be able to think like they do... It's not just about raw calculation.
