I've got nothing to say about Nakamura.

But the case of Judith Polgar is cristal clear.

She has been several years among the top ten players of her time.

She defeated every one of them, including the World Champion, more than just one time, which means, just plain anyone facing her, knew they could lose, not just out of some sorry blunder.

She was so strong, she never bothered compete for the female World title, and disregarded any competion for females only.

This is simply a unique case in human history, and you like it or not, it does deserve the fame and reputation she has.

Then everybody eventually grows old and lose skills and accuracy, that's nothing new, and changes nothing to her glorious years and achievements.

I won't claim to be an expert on either Nakamura or Judit Polgar, but I like Polgar because of her aggressive playing style, at least in the games of hers that I have played through.

Polgar can easily beat Carlsen. Period.

lol you can't be serious. Given the rating gap of about 200 points there is absolutely NO way Polgar could beat Carlsen in a match. you were joking right?

Rating doesn't mean anything, it just measures past performance. It's not ranking like General, colonel, captain, sergeant. Of course general commands colonel command captain commands sergeant.

If you want to discuss intelligenly, you will not discuss abt rating at all, but only chess play and chess moves. If this is all abt rating, tehy don't have to play chess at all.

Why do you say she will no way defeat Carlsen? First, she is a female. Second, she is 200 points lower. Third she is getting to 40. All these things are against her.

Carlsen has all the things in favor of him. So No problem, CArlsen will defeat her, zap.

But one thing you forget, Carlsen is a human, so is Polgar. Human vs human. Brain vs brain. If he chickens out, Carlsen should never play chess anymore. And don't give this rating, that rating.

Magnus carlsen is getting pretty close to the skill of Kasparov. maybe with a lot of luck Polgar would beat carlsen in one game, but never in a match unless carlsen lost his mind. if you look at the classical games of polgar-Kasparov polgar won one time, kasparov won about 10 or 11 games completely crushing her. She did very well to win one game. my point is that magnus Carlsen would beat her zap. there is one and only one person who  i think could dethrone Carlsen. Levon Aronian. that is beside the point, Polgar is not even close to Carlsen skill level however well she does in the womens events.

I know this is super old, but I can’t believe that nobody in the thread called you out on the fact that Judit Polgar never played women’s events past early teens. She is the best female player in history yet she never even played the Women’s World Championship, so I don’t get your point on “Polgar is not even close to Carlsen skill level however well she does in the womens events.”

This is indeed ancient, and very few (if any) of the things I stated here in this thread reflect my current opinions. Your point is, of course, correct.

am here after nakamura read this live on twitch lol

These two are popular for reasons other than how strong their games are. Polgar is admired because she broke new ground for female chess players--something that was way overdue. Yes, there have been many male chess players a bit stronger and more successful than her that got much less credit and publicity but a young succeeding in an all-male environment was an inspiring story.

Nakamura is ubiquitous on the internet, chess TV, etc. It may be that this is self-promotion for his own $$ purposes, but he creates a lot of buzz about chess, and a lot of players appreciate that.

Jutka is way overhyped. So far he "just" has some wins against all living world champions, excluding Garry Jadoubov, while her highest rating is only 96 points higher than the highest any other woman has achieved.

Because of this gem!

But why is a WGM even being compared to the better men in modern chess?   They're in wildly different leagues and an insurmountable wall is between them.

Similarly,  a lot of people and things in chess seem to be quite overhyped.

Its a fair point, however there's a little comment hidden in your response assuming Judit should not be compared against men in chess. I personally believe that having segregation between women and men in a sport that has proven to have no physiological advantage for either gender is a bit dumb. Because of this I don't believe it should even matter whether or not Judit Polgar was a woman. Being #7 in the world and becoming a grandmaster at 15 years of age is more than enough to gain the respect of the chess community.

When did Polgar get demoted to WGM?

She earned the GM title (not WGM) at age 15 (and 4 months), breaking the record previously set by Fischer.

Polgar was pregnant and semi-retired when she played in the 2005 San Luis Candidates tournament, and she scored at the bottom of the table (when she was 29 - by comparison, Carlsen will be 31 this year and is playing the best chess of his life). Since then she decided to devote her time to starting a family and has never been invited back to top events in the last 15 years. Judit Polgar definitely peaked early when it comes to a chess player's development.

I love Judit. Well, not love her, but y'all know what I mean. I've always been a major fan. She's currently commentating the Norway tournament with David Howell. She always does a superb job when she's commenting.

As for Naka, hes a great talent. But for me, the most entertaining thing has been the wrestling match with him and Eric Hansen. I'm trying to think of a meme idea using his pre fight martial arts pose (hahahaha, if it can be called that) combined with the end of match getting choked out image.  Good times.

Please elaborate. I'm not familiar with this issue.
