people that are poor losers

Sort:

Why is it that people that are facing defeat [ or checkmate]would rather make someone wait tell the time runs out rather then just finish the game. Now i know a win is a win regarless of how but it just seems childish to make the person wait. It seem to happen often on this site. There must be a lot of childish people on here. I'd say thats makes them a poor loser.

I am new to this site but dose this happen often??????? The worst thing about it is it was one of the better games i have had on here, it was a great game! All i can say is I dont tink ill play against these people again. To bad, the last one was a great game. Hope i can find more people on here that can take a loss as good as a win. There are some.

hi, first than everything WELCOME to Chess.com

here the staff work so much makin the site more enjoyable every DAY!!

after that, I cant catch your sense,  in every sport there are poor loosers, nice loosers, sad, angry or bad winner.  here you will find a lot of ppl, and you can deny to play again with any member if you want it :)

savy_swede

it doesn't happen that often.

the community here is mostly serious chessplayers

King_William

The running out of time thing does seem to happen from time to time, but mostly you'll find, those players don't return to the site and will not become part of the community.

Play a lot of games, soon you will start to build up a group of friends you'll play often and built relationships with.

Peoples ideas on things differ, from when to resign to vacation use etc. Try to be tolerant and enjoy the games

I think it happens almost as often as people posting forum topics, whining about it.

Hi Colmc, King William is right plays lots of games. and meet lots of people, I have only ever met a few jerks on here, and I call them that because their more interested in my body, (what size am I, have you a big bust, Cor your must be fit) you know the sort of thing, just whatever just play on. Don't worry about your rating it will spoil your enjoyment. This is the best site you will fnd. The community is great. Read the forums, (some of the members will have you lol, and join in. I promise you will enjoy it. (unless your a bit of a prima donna, ye we have them too, but not too many). Just enjoy.

I know what you mean queenie. I get harrased quite a lot by the ladies, but I try not to let it spoil my game. Wink

When I was a little lad, I joined a chess club. Advice about play, standards of behavior and deportment came free from other members, as part of the subscription. This is how things used to be, chess clubs full of seriously minded chess players.

Now it's different, anyone may join chess.com with any agenda, lacking all manners and having little or no positive role models, as to how chess players are expected to behave. The behavior that some of the new (mostly young) players bring with them has been gleaned from other places: the street, their uneducated peer-group, professional sport, music videos etc.

The unpalatable truth, is that if we open our door to all, we can expect all-sorts to walk through it.

Don't allow a few "imitation" chess players to get you down colmc.

well i didnt think i was whining about it i was just asking if it happens alot and that it was to bad because it was one of the best game i played on this site. I guess that everyone has there own thoughts about it but some just have something usefull to say, others just { hint hint ] want to add there 2 cents with no real substance to the topic. ty to the other people that responded, its good to know it dosen't happen often. And i hope we all have a chance to play together soon.

colmc

well i have to say that you guys are wrong, it happens 50-60% of the time. people here are just so bad at losing. Almost every game i get into and i am kicking there a**es they jump out and delay the victory. And its not that they are just trying to find a way around the beat, its there poor sports. Are you guys that sad that u cant take a lose. If i am beat i take it like a man, i resign or play it out i dont jump out or just let the time exspire. come on guys lets play some chess and take the wins and the losses like men. Man i get so frusterated with some of u people.

I want to make a seggestion, lets start a list of the poor sports so other players new or old know who these people are. And we can stay clear of them. DAM i just want to play a decent game of chess with out the bs. I don't know any seggestion form other. Just so i am clear i can understant it if its late or you have to go to work, but i really dont think thats the case here.

Hello, colmc. Smile

Chess, as with any unpredicted rigor, can show you many things about yourself and people you match up with. I have endured a few timeout victories. How I respond, if applicable, is more important than which choices my competitors make. I see related opportunities as a dynamic challenge to my resolve rather than astonishing, emotional fragility worthy of further consideration. It's how I play the game and deal with anyone. Maybe you'll come to feel as though you've grown from the experiences, likewise.

Should your competitor(s) underestimate you or receive a mindboggling thrashing, cheers to you for sticking in there. Cool

colmc
i would like to thank the people that have responed here and say i have to agree, but still i find that ventings oneself from time to time is a good way of getting over it. That and the really nice responces on her. good luck to u all

I think you missed my point.  While you may not have been whining about it, many people post complaints.  My point was that this is not nearly as large a problem as is advertised.  I have 32 wins here, and another on the way, but I have not encountered this problem... not even once.

One thing I do to try and avoid some of these players is to see if they have many timeouts , 5% or more and I dont play them. Also, check some of their losses and if it looks like they like to drag out clearly lost games I also dont play them. I also dont normally play someone with fewer than 20 total games so I can check these things. Play with 1 day time control so when you do get such a bozo you only have to wait one day for each move instead of 3 or 5 .

some children are good a chess and play on this site! i was playing against a poor loser. i asked him " how old are you, 12" to wich he replied yes! Also i sometimes make ppl wait for their win. this is because i want to win another match first. in some situationsm this is better for your rating.

I will not apologise for speaking the truth as I see it. I have been playing chess twice as long as you have been alive, in that time seeing the advent of Internet chess and the changes that it has brought. My opinion is valid and was qualified (some, mostly etc).

p.s. try using the "spell-checker".

I guess I have had an experience or two with opponents who have let the time expire instead of allowing me to win the game outright. They are mostly exceptions to my experience here. Most people I have encountered on this site are a pleasure to associate with, gracious in both victory and defeat.

I learned to play chess when I was 5 but have never participated on a chess club or in tournaments. The history about world class chess I have read revealed its share of poor losers even at that level. People are people and people generally hate to lose.

I just try to remember to control myself in difficult situations and to not let sore losers get me down.

I think the Internet could help sore losers with their manners. One must be very deliberate to throw a tantrum online. It is not like OTB where if a player starts losing, he can destroy the game with one fell swoop of the arm, sending pieces hither and yon and endangering players next to them). On the Internet, if the person throws a tantrum it is usually in a private setting. I have become upset at stupid moves I've made online. I was able to have my reaction and then calmly type "Oops" to my opponent with a little smiley face. Internet chess has helped me exercise more restraint, I think.

I have seen a player who seems to have won most of his/her games by responding  one move at a time over a long period of time.  Maybe the player misses the excitement, and hurly burly of correspondence chess, and with the price of stamps these days why not?
