People who DO NOT RESIGN in a lost position.

Having played in 'the park' a bit in the last few weeks, I've noticed plenty of blitz players don't resign even after blundering a queen or blowing a position completely.  They play on to make sure that their opponent doesn't make any more mistakes (which sometimes they get overconfident and they do).  I saw a guy recently in a game act like he was owning the whole park, and he made a terrible move which lost instantly and he just got up and walked away. It happens.

So we are talking bullet/blitz games now??? I never resign in bullet

They are either:

1. A fish

2. A stupid bot (incompetent programmer)

3. A corrupt bot (drunken programmer)

4. A trumpy bot (not accepting rules and limits)

5. A busy player, busy with other things like posting in a chess forum

6. A stupid player, not acknowledging the abyss

7. A childish player, waiting for the opponent to give up even if he is about to win

8. A bullheaded person not accepting his loss

...

surely there's more

Let them play the game the way they want it, geez

Agreed. They can play as long as the game is still not decided fully. I've screwed up and drawn before like that especially when they frustrate me and I ask myself why. You gotta prove it right?

People resign once the agony of playing on exceeds the despair of admitting defeat. Any resignation prior to that point is premature.

Actually, I just saw that game. You deserved the draw, since anyone who can't mate with that material and 20+ seconds on the clock doesn't deserve a win...

Why, thank you very much Cherub....you're an angel!!

LOL!! this has always been a favorite picture of mine.

To quote Savielly Tartakower:

"No one ever won a game by resigning".

If you have any play left at all, fight on. You might be playing me and I tend to suffer from 'dropsy' (i give away pieces).

funny you posted that.  My dad is about the same age as you, and this pic is one of his' as well.  He used it in my middle school basket-ball team.  He was the coach.  i'll never forget when I first saw the pic.  It was from him.

good times.

If you were not a good enough player to checkmat your opponent during the game, don't begrudge them for practicing their end game skills on you.  For some people it is not just about winning or losing, it is about learning.

Thirded.

Also, I recently had some games (both won and lost) where in the win the other player was lost and even said good game before he made his last move to let me checkmate him. Afterwards he said he did not resign because it was a hard fought battle and he wanted to give me the satisfaction of the checkmate. A few games later I was in the same boat on the losing end and I did the same for my opponent. Sometimes I will resign and others I will let them checkmate me for the prize.

After all, it is just a game.

What's frustrating isn't that they don't resign.

What's frustrating is that they come back and BEAT YOU and you're made at yourself - how could you blow such a position up a queen?!?!

I think situation is latter.
