Are most chess players left of right brained dominant? I checked a 50% left and right.

What if your brain keeps moving around? How do you know which side is left and which is right?

If you take different tests they vary but most of the ones I've tried make me pretty close to 50/50. I'm sure you use both sides but wonder which is better for chess. Try this test or another one.

Just curious what kind of mind makes a better chess player. I'm not a master but have played since the 1960's.

I think Spatial visualization or mathematical ability help in chess as does retrograde analysis. When I was younger I could play blindfold with most average players. This is just a question not something I'm trying to profit from.

Scientists have recently debunked the "right brain left brain" theory. You use both sides equally, and one is not dominant or "better" at chess.

Damn science!

I've been playing long enough to play most openings for 10 or more moves automatically. Sometimes players think your a computer as I just move. Supposedly the left is mathematical and the right creative. I was a tech writer for jet engines but also had to trouble shoot balance and grind machinery too. Writing tech manuals and solving CNC machinery were both different skills. I just wonder which is better for a chess player.

I am like 70% right and 30% black. I love to create new wacko systems and test them which is probably bad but I think most GMs are around half and half because they need to have logic to their moves but also be creative with their moves.

jengaias Good answer.

I would rather have a bottle in front of me, than a prefrontal lobotomy.

About the results of the SOMMER+SOMMER brain test: The questions in the test are deliberately only partly based on scientific insights. Although it delivers a percentage as the final result, this shouldn’t be taken too seriously. The test was conceived as a fun puzzle to pique users’ curiosity in subjects like brain training, IQ training and memory training, and the result – regardless of whether it indicates the user is more of a left-brain thinker, a right-brain thinker or has an equal balance – has no correlation with the actual balance between the two hemispheres of the test-taker’s brain. As such, a test to see how well the two hemispheres work together is a worthwhile idea.
In relation to this, we’d like to discuss a few concepts we also consider important ...

I have a pretty solid theory so hear this. I have googled which controls which so its pretty much written in stone that your right side is the creative and right side scientific dominant which makes the right handed thinkers and left creators. So being right handed makes me a thinker so i therefore am better at chess than i would be if i were left ya. well why is it that on my phone playing chess with my left my win rate is almost 3×better quicker. well heres my theory. I believe in my head that playing with my left hand forces my less dominant side of my brain to fire at a closer to balanced rate inhancing my semi dormant creativity which is equally as important if not more making me better at chess. Even the good book speaks of the power of faith many times. Or maybe there is logic in my theory. i believe there to be. right handed should be able to spell ya or know bout spell check rite
