Quote from third grader after losing all games in her first tournament about what she learned from her experience. "not to put her pieces where she did!"
What is your favorite chess quote of all time?

Someone I can't remember whom told this about Karpov' chess style:
"He moves his pawns forward and backward until he wins."

Lasker
A wonderful quote I find myself applying to many aspects in life, it actually appeared way before Lasker in Pedro Damiano's "Libro de la invencion liberal y arte del juego del axedrez"

From a chessplayer who tosses and turns and cannot sleep after a loss.
"I am done with chess, but chess is not done with me."
Aaron Nimzowitsch was obsessive about smokers among other things. Emmanuel Lasker was a cigar smoker. For their tournament game Mr. Lasker had agreed not to smoke at the chess table during the game. After the start of the game Lasker slowly and step by step set a box of mataches on the chess table then a cigar. At which point Nimzowitsch shot up from his chair and went to complain to the tournament director. The tournament director when to the table where the game was being played, examined the situation and turned to Nimzowitsch and said, "...Mr. Lasker is not smoking..." , to which Nimzowitsch replied excitedly, "yes, yes...but he is threatening to smoke..."
There is an old saying in chess: the threat is stronger than the execution.

Checkers is a better game than chess, because in chess your constantly wondering if the piece you just moved is en prise. Checkers gives the opportunity to think about strategy.
Edgar Allan Poe (word has it, he was a terrible chess player)
"He left it en prise and I took it en passant."
– Joseph Henry Blackburne (after drinking his opponent’s glass of whiskey during a simul)
I thought taht was Alekhine?

Any opening named after an animal is bad!" - Roman Dzindzichashvili.
That actually tickled me.

Mikhail Tal when he lost the world championship to Mikhail Botvinnik: "i think i lost because he beat me."

The most powerful weapon in Chess is to have the next move.
David Bronstein
First, how to sac my queen, then rook, then bishop, then knight, then pawns.
Mikhail Tal
"Life is like a game of chess. You should always think one move ahead of your opponent."
Really true. I'm a busy person and find this quote not only realistic, but also quite thought in depth, so thank you to who ever wrote this quote. (I do not know who).
