Did you compliment anyone directly? I guess I missed that. It seemed more like someone took photos from chess tournaments without women's knowledge and posted them, then some random people started talking about their attractiveness amongst themselves.

I didn't see anything like that here. If that happened, I missed it completely.

Where I am from it is not generally considered offensive to talk about celebrity crushes or discuss what we like about them otherwise aside from appearances. But, this is the internet, not America, so I would like to conduct my behavior in a manner that is fitting for global standards. If I get messages saying that what I said is rude/offensive, then I apologize and will not say things like it again.

Expressing a genuine crush is not offensive, so I see no problem with your first post on the thread, for the record. But if you are also genuine in wanting to understand, then you've already got enough information here on page 1 to figure that out.

The word "celebrity" is relative. These chessplayers are not making a living by putting themselves out there for commentary. If you are trying to say that you really cannot understand even after my joking example why somebody might not find this welcome, then I would say that's pretty hard to believe.

Yes but people talk about women way more and there are way less women in chess too so when they see that a majority of the playerbase is men and they see a bunch of men saying that female chess players are hot (which happens a lot for some odd reason) it definitely discourages them
