Gukesh

Well it's not Magnus Carlsen anymore.

Vacated the WC title (I can only assume it was because he was afraid of loosing his G.O.A.T. status getting beat in match play) What he said about Gukesh, after his victory, and about match play in classical time controls affirms my intuition.

Goes on to state Rapid and Blitz is "The True" testament of the sport of Chess. Then he has a lackluster start in the "Rapid and Blitz World Championship" in which it was looking like there was no way he was going to win... (IN HIS VENUE! IN HIS SELF DECLARED HOUSE! ??)

Then pulls a "princess move" and quits the tournament because he thinks he above the dress code everyone has agreed to and is adhering to. (Not to mention World Champions of the past adhered the same dress code, the Likes of Kasparov, Kramnik, Anand, Karpov, Fisher, etc.

I expected Nakamura to come to Carlsen's rescue publicly...

He's been riding the Carlsen "Goat Train" as the guy that maybe was in his league in his prime.. that Street cred has been going on for a decade. Then along with Carlsen, he pushed the Chess community towards Blitz and Rapid at the advent of Covid.

The same things applies to Nakamura as does Carlsen ... I'm talking the effects of Time and gravity.

What goes up, must come down.

Carlsen and Nakamura are playing the sports celebrity game... Very much like Tiger Woods did in golf. Past his prime, Tiger was never expected to win. The difference between Chess and Golf is Golf moved on form Tiger when Tiger stopped being in his prime.

Is the Chess World going to move on from Carlsen?

The Olympiad tells a different story. Gukesh mopped the floor with the world elite.

Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

Gukesh sucks.

His team of coaches suck too.

They were just overly lucky.

Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

To become best, you have to also reach the number one spot in the ratings, and Magnus still holds that convincingly.

So Gukesh is still not best.

Once he reaches top spot in the rankings, he will be best, but I doubt that.

Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

Ding was off form, Gukesh was on form, that tells a lot.

The last game was pathetic.

Even intermediates do not lose like that.

Compare to Karpov-Kasparov, even Carlsen-Anand, big big difference.

Just because gukesh won world championship he not best in world. Magnus is and he decided not to participate in world championship that’s why he didn’t win it

Right now it’s Gukesh, but it is very close and fluid at the top.

Reaching the number one spot is often seen as the defining mark of being the best and Magnus undeniably holds that position. While Gukesh is a remarkable talent, being the best involves consistently topping the rankings. Until he achieves that, the debate remains open. However, doubting his potential might underestimate his ability to surprise the world.

I agree that Gukesh is not the best but I honestly don't like the "Gukesh SUCKS" it's less of an opinion and more hate, but still, I kinda agree.

insane

What, do you want chess players to be put in emotional stress by playing the WC?
