It feels like 10x10 would just postpone the problem for a short while, quickly new theory would arrise, and the strongest players would assimiliate the strategy required for the 10x10 board.
Fischer chess, or a similiar variant is the only way to get rid of opening theory, the way it exists today.
A lot has been written about Standard Chess becoming too "theory-oriented"
and that Chess960 is the wave of the future. Evidently somebody named
Fischer felt that this was the case.
However, some have suggested that a better solution than Chess960 would be to go to a 10x10 board instead. Of course there would be a question as to
which extra pieces should be added or if a new knight-bishop hybrid piece
should be used.
I am old school and although Fischer is my favorite player(I don't agree
with many of his comments) I think Standard Chess is just fine and here to
stay. I think Chess960 is a great diversion but will never replace Standard
Chess. I also think a 10x10 variant would be fun as it would probably make
the game even more tactical than positional(although I am not sure).
What are your thoughts on the future of chess?
PLEASE KEEP ALL FISCHER COMMENTS RELATIVE TO THE TOPIC!!! THANKS.
