i will try
You can get chess master titles at 1100 elo!!!
I still don't understand what you mean because from what it sounds is that your thought of master is that people look and say wow, but It's true that nobody will care but so what? Also why would you want master at 1400. I am not trying to pick an argument.
Generally if someone is a titled player people are much more inclined to respect thier opinion however if they are 1400 elo then people will dismiss them as normal which is my point.
Thanks, good point.

Yeah, if we all worked at chess like it was a job then we'd all be CMs.
Doesn't mean we're all CMs.
You can figure out the logic there by yourself. :)

what title would I get if my rating is 2000 ( blitz)
You will get AIM, like me. But you might be eligible for AGM you just need 100 blitz games above 2000 blitz rating, without dropping.

AOL instant messenger? That's disgusting. Can't we use Steam, or Skype, or at least Yahoo Messenger?

I see. So that guy was just being a mysoginistic pig by not mentioning that GM's (men) have had the same problem.
got it, thanks.

Kleelof you made my day. I wish we could meet to personally thank you
To add up to thread. Yes there are even OTB masters at 1100 level. Take a look. Nothing wrong with it.

maybe one day.
I'll even let you buy the first round of beers.

From wikipedia:
Delivering checkmate is difficult if the technique has not been studied and practiced. Even grandmasters, including GM Vladimir Epishin and Women's World Champion GM Anna Ushenina have obtained the endgame but failed to win it.
Conversly, Judit Polgar did it blindfold.
But nobody can forget the failed mate delivering technique of Ivanchuk.

As with most online things...I am 3 years late to this party. Just learned about the arena "master" titles which are hilarious and stupid...but I will probably get one anyway if it is still a thing in 2018.
I actually think the idea is cool of having titles for amateur levels (like the class system in USCF) but including the term "master" is weak and kind of insulting to real masters.

The problem is that when you get a title like WCM etc. everyone from the government to private sector felicitates you for the title and would never care to ask the rating or how you got the title. I know few WCM's who are rated 1500-1600 Fide and they are getting honored as Masters (due to the word master in the certificate given by Fide). Only the fellow serious chess players know the strength of these WCM's (or lack thereof). But for the rest of the media, they are touted as masters displaying a complete mockery of these sham titles when others have to be rated over 2000 elo at minimum! The youngest FM in the world from Philippines was rated 1500+ Fide when he got the title in 2013! Funnily enough, he still hasn't reached the 2300 rating to achieve the title by legit means!
"here are WGM's who does not know how to checkmate with Knight and bishop "
This is absolutely untrue. What is true that there are many titled players who have a hard time mating with a knight and bishop when they have seconds on the clock and the 50-move rule is looming

Sorry, it's true.

i totally sympathize with the dilution of chess titles by winning certain events.
but not being able to checkmate with a knight and a bishop is just a silly low blow. These are endings you may get once or twice in your professional chess career if that. You are much better off learning a little more on rook endings than mastering this obscure ending.
heck, at one point, i practiced N+B +K Vs K and got a general gist of what to do but would still take me some time to execute. I havent practised it in so long , i could easily botch it , esp with low time.
Chess strength is measured by what you know and how that manifests in your games and therefore your rating over spans of time. This ending is not foundational, and even GM's have messed up more important endgame positions like the Vancura position, or how to defend in a bishop + Rook vs Rook endgame.
ok my fide is 1904
