Interesting, thanks. I'll have to look for that first game

I’ve been always regarded as a Time Thief expert, but the rules got changed a bit... I can play with the Witch and Time Thief.

Sure, that's fine. We'll need a mod. I understand why they removed conditional check though. I read through the rules and I only understood some of that section. It also seemed slightly arbitrary

Incorrect.
The first bulldog chess game was played with bulldogs and guards. The witch was not invented yet. Since then witch and guard has become the most common pieces to use, but the name bulldog chess just stuck around after the first game.
The siege tower has the same rules as bulldogs. It replaced the bulldog in some games because bulldogs weren't used in medieval war. The bulldog piece came before the siege tower though.

They have not really changed. Most normal old games are compatible with the new rules. Only when you look for inconsistencies and tricky diagrams, you can find those with the old rules but not with the new rules.

Just curious. What is the origination of the term "bulldog chess"? Does it come from the bulldog piece? Or is it something different?
