So pawns can both move and capture backwards after this point?
So if you're white and a pawn is on the 2nd rank at the time, can they promote?
In that case, I could imagine tactics coming up where you force a piece trade then immediately promote your pawn.
I was wondering about the strength of the pawn formation.
I invented Chess 12.
Chess 12 is based on the fact that when the value of one of the players' pieces drops to 12 points, the pieces start beating backwards.
I don't count the king's worth.
This leaves the knight, rook, and bishop on the board. Or two towers.
Or a queen and a knight.
Can chess theorists tell me if this makes sense?
