Chess 921,600 under the name of 'Double Fischer Random' has been played for many years on the correspondence site 'Scheming Mind', and one five player tournament is taking place right now: https://www.schemingmind.com/home/minitournament.aspx?tournament_id=10878.
I played in a few tournaments some years ago, and it's true that some starting positions may significantly favour White (or even Black!) but I never found that to be much of a problem - in the end it's usually the stronger player who wins out.

Yeah but just common sense tells you lmao with so many variations you're certainly going to have some that do cause one side to be not benefitted due the set of that game.

WTFrickenA

... probably why Fischer made it 960 instead of the OP's mention.

The whole point of Chess960 is to get rid of the starting symmetry and start from a random position. When the pieces mirror each other, it's not that random is it?

WTFrickenA

I agree but dude fairity in chess is lmao a big thing yo

😂 think about it

The difference with the original starting position is that it yields alot of complex openings with lots of interesting moves and possibilities for both sides, so symmetry is needed no other position really does that, so if any other position used, symmetry shouldn't be there.
