Fairy chess pieces and ones you think ought to exist

Many know there are lots of fairy chess pieces as in alternate pieces not a part of the standard chess code. A while ago, people on here were encouraged to come up with new exotic chess piece ideas and shortly I'll come up with my own that appear to be neglected so far. Meanwhile here are the most common powerful fairly pieces many of you may already know:

Rook-knight compound; aka chancellor, empress or rhino-knight. Worth 8 points I think

Bishop-knight compound; aka archbishop, princess, zebra-knight or cardinal. Worth 6 points I think

Quern-knight compound; aka super-queen, Amazon, unicorn or Pope. Worth 12 points I think

Now here are mine:

Knight-machine, B-52, motor-horse, aerial tank or mega-knight: like a knight but can jump unlimited squares in the L shape no matter how occupied the squares are.

In other words, should its first move be diagonal, remaining moves must be orthogonal (in rook direction except can jump over pieces)

If its first move is in orthogonal direction (again irrespective of pieces in way), its very last move must be a single diagonal

This piece would evidently be worth more than a rook but maybe not quite as much as a queen? You decide?

Double rook, Super rook, president, sky scraper or voluptuous Queen: this piece acts as the power of two rooks- 10 points it's be worth. It can move both vertically and horizontally in one move IF all squares are completely clear yet alone the square forming the 90 degree angle of its double file.

This means although not as powerful as the queen-knight compound, it could checkmate a king without the aid of allie king in endgame if the enemy king is on the back rank and this super rook is on the neighbouring thus second last rank

Lastly, a mega Queen, conquerer or goddess

Not set in stone its exact moves but more even more powerful than queen-knight compound. Worth 15-18 points and not only could win a king on her own, but also without the aid of the back rank, board edge yet alone enemy pieces

Guess I'm wondering how I could come about chess variants with pieces like these

As you seem to refer values to a scale where Q=9, the correct values for the RN and BN compound would be 9.5 and 9, respectively. QN=12 sounds right.

Your B-52 is immensely powerful. The piece that starts with a diagonal step, and then continues outward as a Rook (but does not jump!) is known as Gryphon, and is already worth about 8. Allowing it to jump an arbitrary nomber of pieces would certainly make it stronger than a Queen. A non-jumping piece that first steps orthogonally, and continues like a Bishop, is worth about 7, and a jumping version close to a Queen. Combine the two, and you probably end up above 15.

I am not sure what your Double Rook does. Must the entire rectangular area of which its start and target squares are corners be empty? You don't say how the Mega Queen moves at all.

Thanks so much for your response there bud! In final thoughts it is probably a good idea I didn't tell you how the mega Queen would move as in second thoughts if you want to create a chess variant of your own, it is probably a good idea not to introduce strange pieces that are outrageously too powerful?! Chess should really be able special challenges based around a unique set of skills and/or decision making rather than pieces that make the game too easy or an insult to the middle ground strategy/tactics of chess? But what would I know there?

Meanwhile, it's fair to say the standard code of chess is challenging and interesting to learn as it is however it doesn't hurt to have can imagination alongside the chess screne too which explains why lots of people are fascinated by exotic chess pieces and/or altered chess codes? 🤗

Just to get back upon this topic, the double rook was meant to be able to continue the orthogonal line to horizontal direction if its move was initially vertical and vice versa - just as long as it does cut any corners and every single square in L path have been empty.

In terms of the mega queen, like the queen-knight compound however when acting as a knight, she can continue jumping an extra third suare, making her a compound of queen, knight and Camel! Probably a trade value of 14 points perhaps?

Isn't this the hook mover?

Have you heard of the blade dancer piece from ouroboros king? It works fine for that because each army consists of 8 pieces max, it would need to be nerfed for normal chess, because the original piece moves like a knight or can jump two spaces in any direction, moving again and again if it captures a piece. So:

the blade dancer can travel one space to any adjacent space, but not capture that way, or capture like a knight, but not move that way normally. If it captures a piece, it can move again and again, up to three times in the same turn. It cannot be moved two turns in a row.

yeah. Hard, hard nerf.

Correction- if you use the multi kill, you cant move the multi kill the next turn. You can still always use the one-space move.
