I invented a new variant called for dimensional chess. here is how you play

Notation:

A-h first dimension

1-8 second dimension

1-8 Third dimension

1-8 fourth dimension

Pieces:

King:

Constrained to coordinates a-h 1-8 1 1.

Pawn:

Cannot change its position in the third and fourth dimension. To move pawn increases its second dimensions coordinate value by one, except if its first move(where it has the option to move two squares forward) or when it is in coordinate value 2 or 8 in the fourth dimension. If this is the case it has the option to move to a-h 1-2 1-2 1 for white or a-h 7-8 1-2 1 for black. Promotes when it has reached coordinate value 8 in the second dimension.

Knight:

Controls squares that are -1/1 and -3/3 coordinate values away (in any two dimensions) with other coordinate values being the same.

Queen:

Controls squares that have exactly the same coordinate values except for one dimension and squares that make a line with the queen that has a slope of 1/1.

Bishop:

Controls squares that make a line with the bishop that has a slope of 1/1.

Rook:

Controls squares that have exactly the same coordinate values except for one dimension.

Castling:

Same as in two dimensional chess.

Starting Position:

King: e111/e8111

Queen: d111/d8111

Bishops:

White: c111/f111

Black: c811/f811

Knights:

White: b111/g111

Black: b811/g811

Rooks:

White: a111/h111

Black: a811/h811

Pawns:

White: a-h211, a-h221, a-h121, a-h112, a-h122, a-h222, a-h212(all pawns must touch a piece other than a pawn in the starting position)

Black:  a-h711, a-h721, a-h821, a-h811, a-h828, a-h828, a-h818

If any one is interested I will create a simultaneous 8 player double round robin world championship tournament following the rules here,. To join you will have to post join with the first 8 people being accepted.

BTW the two games you play against every opponent must diverge by move 10.

Asparagusic_acids

you can visualize the board by breaking it up into eight  three dimensional boards.

Basically break up the 4d board onto 8 boards.
