How to play automate?

I've been trying to play automate, but I can't figure out how to place pieces on the board. I've tried clicking the squares with left and right button, using keyboard numbers, but nothing ever happens. I've tried now three times and I just end up losing on time as I have no idea what the controls are. The rules sections is also not helpful.

So how do I play this? I'm using Firefox on Windows laptop.

I have read that, but I don't understand what the controls are. Like I begin a game and my opponent puts their first pawn on board. Then I have no idea what I need to do to put my pawn on the board.

I checked a youtube video about this and it seems I have some glitch, because I don't see any pieces under the score (35 | 35) where I should pick them. So propably this just doesn't work in my browser.

OK. Click the piece you want on the right, and place it on the square. 

But automate is removed
