Revolution Chess is a new take on a traditional game made for the next generation of modern Chess thinkers and strategists.  The objectives and movements of the pieces are the same as traditional chess, the only difference besides the setup is that Pawns can move either north or east of the board toward promotion.

Rules

  1. The objectives & movements all remain the same as traditional Chess
  2. Pawns can  move either North or East of the board toward promotion
  3. If a Pawn moves in a direction it must remain moving in that direction
  4. If  a Pawn eats a piece on its first move it hasn’t yet picked a direction

There 20 possible opening moves in Chess. Revolution Chess has 27 possible opening moves

The setup of Revolution Chess provides ultimate protection for the King.  Pawns, traditionally undervalued, are significantly more powerful as they can choose their path of attack. Thе concept of the gаmе саmе from thinking how in standard сhеѕѕ thе king саn bе put in check within a fеw moves, sometimes, Checkmate within two moves. In a real battle, thе king would nеver bе рut in jeopardy so еаѕіlу bесаuѕе hе wоuld bе protected bу hіѕ whole army.

The official way to play the game is with the board rotated 45 degrees in a diamond-like shape Though the game can be played with the board in either direction.  Revolution Chess "preserves the dynamic nature of Chess while making it more complex and faster, compelling players to rely on their talent and creativity.

I got familiar with the rules and shared it with my students ( I am a chess coach from Ukraine), and now  every time we sit down and get ready  for the game analysis, they ask : Can we play the Revolution?! -)

We all  like variety ..and options to choose from

That s what Revolution does to you, gives you an option , a GREAT OPTION ! to standard chess ... Thank You

Interesting variant

Uh ... "revolution"? Uh, there are 1000's of published variants, tens of thousands of UNpublished variants. Diagonal chess has been "invented" over and over again. That being said, uh, all bishops on the same color? Ok, sure. Rook pawns can promote to queen on White's 2nd move? Sure, why not. I believe that white's advantage will be *much* more than in FIDE chess.

The trouble with chess variants -- which I play constantly -- is that it takes no thought at all to invent one -- or a dozen. One has to remember that there is very little special about FIDE chess -- except that so many people play it and there is a large database of games, strategy, etc. If you are bored with chess -- pick any 1000s of 'near chess' variants, or roll your own. But calling this teensy variation on a much worn theme "revolutionary"...

I enjoyed this variant. Thanks!

Except for the fact $15 million was raised to get Fischer to play Karpov in this variant back in 2007

A very cool mate played on that server back in 2005. Tell me who sees the queen sack for the mate in 2?

Yeah, this is overall excellent, but it has some minor problems. Nothing unfixable though. So taking the basics I made my own fixes. Like, each player has to have one bishop of each color, and the bishops should not be confronted on the first move. Natural. Logical. Pawns always move one square at a time, this for aesthetical reasons and to simplify the rules, and it also helps to balance the game. Still move orthogonal or diagonal forward, towards the opponent, one step at a time. But the main fix, the thing that makes it totally playable rather than a massive advantage for white is limiting the promotion area to d8-h4 for white, and a5-e1 for black. The pawns can´t just run to promotion unopposed. If they want to promote they have to move towards the opponent camp, no way around it.

So simple that a 3 years old can learn to play in a day, and yet enough to turn chess from 80-90% draws to 80-90% wins.
