Arimaa in Wood

Arimaa is an extreme chess variant designed to be much more difficult for computers to play, while still remaining easy for humans to learn and enjoy. It was invented in 2002 and has since then been played mostly over the internet by a growing Arimaa community.

But, no one had ever designed a decorative, wooden set built specifically for Arimaa. Until now.

The sets will be auctioned off starting in a few weeks, you can sign up to receive word when the auction starts. So go to http://www.newforestearth.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=24&Itemid=115〈=en

I wouldn't consider Arimaa a Chess variant.  It's an abstract strategy game that is playable using Chess pieces.

But the set looks pretty darned cool.

And, since you mentioned Arimaa, I'll note that I'm hosting a tournament at a game convention next week.  At the U-Con game convention in Ann Arbor, Michigan, there will be an Arimaa event.

Now, the big question, is whether there will be Arimaa players.  I've wanted to hold tournaments in Chess variants and in abstract games other than Chess, but finding players is quite problematic.

ETA:  I'm taking the liberty of posting a thread about this in the abstract game section of boardgamegeek.com
