This page offers two chess960 resources. The first is a tool to generate random chess960 positions. The second is a table of the 960 start positions and their corresponding numbers.

1) Chess960 Position Generator
Click on 'Generate' to obtain a random chess960 start position. • Click on 'Switch' to switch between a start position numeric ID (e.g. 518) and its position represented by pieces (e.g. RNBQKBNR), or vice versa. If the 'Switch' box is empty, the position displayed in 'Generate' is used.
The table below relates the standard numbers used to identify chess960 start positions to the corresponding start string. See the end of the table for some ideas about how to use it.
