It can be fun at first - its amazing how you can be caught early by unexpected weak points. Middlegame from move 1. Not convinced it helps your play that much though. I like to get castled quickly though and one game it let me castle move 3 (move 2 knights then castle).
Exactly, no more trying to memorize the book move. If your not into studying openings its great. Pure chess from move 1.

There are 960 positions. There are 4 places for the light squared bishop and 4 for the dark squared one. This leaves 6 possible squares for the queen and then 10 ways left to arrange the king and rooks (the king has to be between the rooks). The knights get whatever's left. So: 4 x 4 x 6 x 10 = 960.
I think they should change chess 960 into fischers friendly because when you first sign up, you have no idea what chess 960 is. There is just a box saying chess 960 and it says that your rating is 1200. It took me 2 months tofigure out what chess 960 really was. What do you think?
