Mat Masters Chess Club

Hi, my name is Westin Vance. I’m a black belt in jiu jitsu and a hobbyist chess player. I own a jiu jitsu club and enjoy playing games with my students. We’re located in Bedford, Texas, in the DFW Metroplex.

I’ve recently decided to start a small club and would love your advice and ideas. My goal is to have fun and create a unique blend of the jiu jitsu and chess communities. The plan is to have an hour of jiu jitsu, followed by an hour of chess—right on the mat. I have five boards and a space ready to go.

Here’s the catch: none of us jiu jitsu folks are particularly good at chess. I’d love to invite local chess enthusiasts to come play with us and be part of the fun. I’ve connected with a couple of local clubs, but I’m still pretty new to the chess scene.

So first, if you’re in the DFW area, I’d love to connect. And second, please send me your best ideas for creating a fun, welcoming event that brings these two worlds together.
