There should be a button to each club shown all the time which will send a request/flag to the staff to merge the club with another club of similar name. This button will be accessible to any user of the website.
As an example, search 'team hong kong' in the clubs page. There will be three clubs in the search result having almost identical name.
You can tell which club to join here. The other clubs are only increasing the weight of the database in terms of name, member, and image.
Now from this example this may seem only a tiny amount of unwanted load, but if you think with 100 or even 1000 clubs, the unwanted weight becomes significant.
Therefore I am suggesting for a merge button. Maybe a report button where the only option will be 'duplicate club' or 'merge'.
The merge option will be as follows: Upon clicking the button there will be a field, and a radio button list or a text area. In the first field only links will be asked and accepted. In the next radio button option, people will select reasons such as 'similar name', 'other one is larger', 'other one is older and running' et cetera.
When the staff will see such report they will judge the activity level of both clubs, and merge accordingly. Merging means, the members of the club-to-be-merged will be added to the club-with-which-to-be-merged. The name and existence of the bigger/running club will remain the same, and the other one will be vanished.
