Don't forget Petrosian!

amitprabhale

Anatoly Karpov on No.2 and Fischer on No. 16.....RUBBISH!!!

0ort

Don't forget Giuoco Pianissimo! Just kidding, I think you might be confusing Guico (sic) Piano with giuoco piano, which is Italian for quiet game rather than the name of the originator of that opening. Giuoco pianissimo of course means very quiet game. I could be wrong however and Guico Piano could actually be a real person... it would be a good chess players name!

ouch abit sore there ! actually the OP has put it there which has nothing to do with the rating, right ?

for Giuoco Piano(Pianissimo) is not a person.

StrategicusRex

Alright, thanks.  Yeah, I'm not rating them from best to worst (believe me, Carlsen would not be that far down if I was).  I'm just numbering them to see how many I had.

Okay, Tigran Petrosian's not on there?  He's 93 then.

StrategicusRex

By the way, a lot of these guys me and my friend named off the tops of our heads.  I named 33 right off the bat and it went from there.

We got over 100, but I can't remember everyone we named.  I remembered most though.  It was crazy.

goldendog

Apart from the existential why, why is Larry D Evans on the list but not Larry M?

StrategicusRex

There's 2 Evanses? I didn't know that.

goldendog

Larry M is the GM, several times US champ, famous columnist, friend of Fischer, and Larry D is just a regular master, did write for Chess Life at one time.

EXTRANEOUS INSERT OF FISCHER PIC ALERT

(G-dog i tried to upload the image of Fischer jumping rope but i need some sort of permission so back to the old punching bag!)

goldendog

Here's another version. Fischer working the Marciano heavy bag.

Lol. Time to hit the liquor store.

rigamagician

Levon Aronian, Vugar Gashimov, Yue Wang and Peter Svidler are other players in the current top ten who are missing from your list.  Guioco Piano is an opening not a human being.  From's first name was Martin I believe not Severin.  Is van Kruij referring to the Dutch player Maarten Van't Kruijs who played 1.e3 in the 19th century?

mprhchess

interesting idea. . .

justingoodhart
Nice pictures. Anyway that is a long list. How did you rate them?
StrategicusRex

I didn't rate these people, I just number them to see how many me and my friend can come up with.  Believe me, I'd have to make a WHOLE BUNCH of adjustments if I was rating these guys.

StrategicusRex

Carlsen, Alekhine, and Capablanca would murder me if I gave them those spots on a rated list.  :)

rigamagician

Larry Kaufman is spelled with a K.  Also Deschappelles is usually spelled as one word.

G-DOG RULZ!

what about Bisguier, Denker, Santasaire, Steiner, Smyslov, Tartakower, Keres, Bronstein, Glilgoric, Botvinik, Tal, Fine, Reshevsky, Schlecter, Janowski, the NEW Tigran Petrosian, Finegold, Kadinov, Yermolowski, Shabalov, Brown, Curdo (he might only be an IM of NM), Alaxandar and Igor Ivanov, Saemisch, Burn, Bogolojubow, Gulko, Geller, Tchorgin, Portisch, Huebner,

jpd303

Najdorf, Ragozin, Fhlor, Speilmann, Benko,  van Wely, Teichmann, Torre, Korchnoi and on and on... what kind of list is this anyway? are we just naming random GM's? how did you miss world champs and some of the best players EVER (Bronstein, Korchnoi & Keres for examples)? why did i feed the troll? oh i always feed trolls, its in my nature...
