Well, exactly polar bear. It would be great if people like him would get a special place to be remembered. R.i.p. Jan..
But I got a message that earlier people have been "faking death" or told chess.com they where someones friend and that someone passed away when they hadnt. Well... if people do such things then it gets hard. Again, I dont know how the other site does it, but as far as I know there have not been "fake deaths" there.
*edit: the site is almost 99% dutch, so I guess they ask for information that enables them to verify it. Chess.com serves the whole world, that makes it alot harder.
For all of us the day will come that we pass away. If that happens the player ofcourse suddenly no longer signs into his account and no longer replies to messages.
On another big forum about electronic music and parties that I used to frequent, there is a section with members who are no longer among us. Users are able to post a condoleance on their profile. I don't know how the website confirms that this is the case, but I never saw any abuse there (i.e.: someone being on the list when he shouldnt be).
This may not be a fun addition, but over there it works good and the condoleances that are being posted are respectfull (the trolls there are much worse than here) and it allows people to say goodbye to people they met on the site.
