A Short Note

Hello there chess.com! Wink

It has come to my attention that following the end of hurt/heal yesterday, three or four threads/blogs have started up based on the same premise as my original thread. (Curiously, all the new games are centered around openings.)

Now, to be honest, Hurt/Heal was a one-off thing, and people are going to get VERY tired of it, VERY quickly. As has been mentioned on a couple of the threads themselves... they will simply pollute the forums.

So, I have created a group for Hurt/Heal games, here:

http://www.chess.com/groups/home/hurtheal

Everyone who wants to create/participate in hurt and heal games should join. If someone wants to become the super-admin, just message me, as I have no wish to be it myself.

So, hop to it! And please don't create any of these silly threads in the public forum! Smile

I think they're a short-lived fad (of course i said that about cell phones Wink too) and will die the death of the ignored. Plus, who wants to administer/score the thread.. Nytiq, it can't have been that much fun tabulating the results -- somewhere in there you had to have been saying: my god, what did I sign up for! Kudos for sticking to it, btw... but I'd bet you aren't dying to host another hurt/heal, are you?

Nytik

You're exactly right, I'm not. But I'm also not particularly pleased about the new ones that have cropped up...

For example:

http://blog.chess.com/alearthcore19/most-popular-opening-first-move-hurt-and-heal

And one or two others, I believe.

Perhaps I should just delete the group and hope that my unfortunate spawns wither and die? Which brings me to a question I've had for a long time- how would I go about deleting a group?

Nytik

Well, I'd be ok if it was just one thread, rather than several people attempting the same thing at the same time... besides, if there are several threads, which one am I meant to endorse? Wink

Ok, first of all, I don't get the referrence involving buzzards and Hinckley. Secondly, my hurt/heal thread was different to these new ones because mine had a proper topic- popularity of chess World Champions- whereas it doesn't work as well with chess openings.

You know what, Richie_and_Oprah, it annoys me that you're more intelligent than me, and are pretty much able to figure me out. But I guess I'll have to live with that! Wink

Looks like I won't be getting my controlling hands over you! Surprised

I couldn't believe the hurt heal thing lasted for more than 2 days.

"buzzards and Hinckley" - something to do with Triumph and the state of the motoring industry?

How many people "playing" actually cared about the result? Do you think most of them just wanted to have their 15 minutes?

Most forums degrade into these types of threads (hurt/heal and the like) when the mass realization that not much else to be talked about is at hand.  How many times can one read a post about what is better to open with e4 or d4?

They are a bell weather to some of us as to what life stage a website is in.

Still I'd rather sit bored deliberating over whether my page background is more a peach or a honey dew than do other certain things i.e. hurt heal thread.  And your voice is drowned so quickly...like pouring water into sand.
