Ads are one thing, but this is ridiculous

Is anyone else infuriated by the pop-under ads for the guy who is making money off of google?  For me, adding voice was the last straw.  Its bad enough with firefox where I have to figure out where the pop-under screen is hiding before I can shut him up, but when I launch chess.com from Google Chrome, it will block the pop-up, but not the voice-over.  I have to listen to his freaking life story while opening the pop-up blocker, selecting his ad, allowing it, and then finally closing it as quickly as possible.

I'm hoping enough people are annoyed by this to make somebody notice, so if this bugs the heck of you too, please chime in here.

hrmm... that shouldn't be OK. can you give me any more information on this? i can't find out which ad it is... if someone can give me a URL or an ad ID or something...

I found the previous post regarding this topic, with the defense from Erik & co about the use of pop-ups.  Does the following postscript still apply?

(PS - you shouldn't be getting more than 1-2 popunders a day, and they should not make noise or show inappropriate material. if you are experiencing something different from this, please let us know so we can look into it)

I could live with the annoying pop-unders when I didn't find them until I started closing windows, but that kid's voice drives me up the wall.  I'm still pretty new here and I've been considering joining because the content is so good, but I feel like the guy sitting at the table and paying a singer to go away because he is so terrible.  That is making me less likely to join the site, not more.

Yes, I am new to Chess.com and this ad appears everytime I log on. I might cancel due to it. Very unprofessional.

it is scottsmoneyblog.com  I'll get the actual url next time it launches.

That josh deserves to be blocked from every internet site lol

launched the website in IE, and immediately started hearing that soCal accent.  I'm morbidly curious to figure out exactly how long he talks, I'd time it, but it might make me jump out a window or something.

before premium membership, I had very few ads using internet explorer, which supposedly gets the most?

My advice is to keep your volume down when you first enter, and once it's gone raise the volume again.

erik

i think i found it and killed it.

StewartAg96

You, sir, have just talked me into spending money.  Thank you very much.

Yay, Josh is gone (even though I have the same accent) !  Thanks Eric !

I agree, this has to stop.

Could you people be any more spoiled? If you're not gonna pay to support the site and all its efforts at least have the decency to respect all the work done for you (for free) and shut up.

thank you for your support. however, auto-play audio ads are a nuisance. if they are still going then i need to know...

erik, what i don't understand is that chess.com is allowing scam ads on the site.  Just ads I can understand as a means of making a living off the site, but SCAMS?  Are you in some way connected with scottsmoneyblog, or do you just not notice? It's not just annoying, it's sick to make money off someone else's scams.

RoyalFlush1991

Erik as far as the issue of auto-play audio ads, I have had one earlier today from scottsmoneyblog.com, so I assume they are still active. Your efforts to truly offer the best web experience even to those that provide no revenue to the site (other than our support from word of mouth) is commendable.

is Josh from the Scottsmoneyblog ? if so how you can possibly have the same accent that is say he from Perth WA Australia ?

I can support both sides of the fence here. Yes, voice-overs are annoying, but yes, we need ads for free players like me. For me, ads that you can see and not hear are far better.

These popups are blocked by the proxy work due to "Illegal Activities."  I work at Ford.  Obviously whatever major proxy/security company we use knows this is a scam.  I agree that they should be stopped.

Can we focus on this please and not complain about the audio ads.? The powers that be at chess dot com need to realize that this is a scam and not a legit ad.  How do we get this thread noticed by someone who can make a change?

I had to quit playing at work because of these stupid scottsmoney blog ads :)
