An approach I disagree with that some group admins take.

It seems that some group admins only care about the member count when inviting people, rather than thinking about who would contribute to the group. They don't care about them contributing to the group, as long as they co tribute to the member count, it's okay. What are your thouguts on this?

Mezmer

I'd rather have a smaller but active group that participates, personally.

I think this type of approach is similar to the one that some people on YouTube take, which is to try and get as many subscribers as possible, even if they won't watch their videos, or even if the person wanting subscribers doesn't have videos at all.

I'm of the opinion that quality over quantity should be the rule. I am guilty though of inviting people ad hoc without knowing anything about them. But to everyone that accepts an invite I send a personal(ish) message of welcome and encouragement to participate in the group as much as possible. Someday soon I may weed through those members who have not been active on chess.com for a while. It's a pity there's no way of finding out who logs on and when to the group itself, this would be very useful for the purpose of weeding out those who just make up the numbers.

yes you can do that if you are the SA of the groups.

I want to be the SLA of the group.

corrijean

What's SLA stand for, AndyClifton?

kco

Super Looney Admin.

AndyClifton

Does the word Symbionese ring any bells?

That was the only good thing about those guys (well, that and their art work).

corrijean

I keep telling you, kco, me and Clifton aren't looney, we are (in his words) "split person."  I just look at it like I'm subletting myself. Smile

kco

if you are not a looney, then what does SLA stand for ? Shitting Los Angeles ?

Timotheous
If your talking about groups, yeah smaller and more actice. But if your talking intestines sometimes larger and less active is better.
corrijean

A body of dissimilar bodies and organisms living in deep and loving harmony and partnership in the best interest of all within the body.

AndyClifton

Oh for crying out loud, kco, Symbionese Symbionese Symbionese!!  Google it if you have to!  You know, Cinque (pronounced Seen-kyoo, for some reason), Tanya, the whole lovable bank-robbin gang of em.  "Dad, you're so bourgeois"...lol.

I'm not gonna lower my PopCult reference standards to pander to those who haven't read nearly as many useless trivia books as I have. Smile

kco

I don't read trivia books, so fine I'll look it up in the google....Tongue out

corrijean

Man, I wish we could have a Trivial Pursuit showdown. I'm much better at that than I am at chess.

kco

them the Symbionese Liberation Army ? I think you would still be better of as a Super Looney Admin.

AndyClifton

Btw you might want to check out Guerrilla:  The Taking of Patricia Hearst...the best damn documentary I've ever seen.

I lived through that time, and it all looks like science fiction now.  I mean, the food giveaway and the siege on that house, and how long Patty was a fugitive after that...boggles the mind.
