A Suggestion

I have been on chess.com for around four years now, and have encountered many different kinds of people: kind, smart, funny, helpful, trolls, weird, sketchy, and rude people.

I like everyone on the above list, yes, even trolls, except for the rude people. I then came up with my wonderful idea. Chess.com should incorporate a rating system.

Not the rating system like the site has for estimating your chess level, but a rating system from 1-100%.

     Here is what I mean:

Every player, premium or non-paying has the ability to rate ONE players politness on a scale of 1-100% every month. It would be similar to seller ratings on selling sites.

This will create a % on how friendly or rude every individual player is based on other members' votes.

Then, you will have an option in the live chess section to filter them out when seeking for games if they are below a certain #..

This would discourage rude/bad behavior because all of the impolite players will not be able to play any games!

I think this feature would benifit all of the chess.com community!

Awful idea

See, and if such a system were implemented you'd be able to downvote him for it.

Many times over, similar commnity sourced reputation schemes have been proposed here.  I don't think chess.com's management is keen on them, but there are other examples of them working quite well elsewhere.

I rate this idea at approximately 13%

TWENTY? How abandoned do you want this new place to be?

I think you are in the minority as someone who is deeply concerned with how "polite" your opponent is. The vast majority of games finish without a word spoken. If there is something said, it's usually just a simple "gg".

I don't care how polite or rude my opponent is. I come to this site to play and study the game of chess. If someone is being excessively rude to the point where it's distracting, I disable chat.

Your idea solves no probelm and adds no value to the site.

ChezBoy,

The system you propose could be manipulated to unfairly tarnish a member's reputation.  For example, 100 trolls get together (communicating within an exclusive group) and pick one person they want to punish.  These trolls then all simultaneously vote to give the victim an undeserved low rating.  This sounds like the kind of thing trolls would love to try, if for no other reason than to flout their organizational skills.

Thank you for your interesting point. I appreciate the constructive criticizm, however, I don't think the system would be that easy to abuse. Besides, who is hated so much that everyone would gaing up on them?

P.S. If this is taken, I want to be credited!

Plus the title. I mean, really?

And no, it's not an excellent idea. Not a bad one, but far from excellent. But who cares about reasons anyway? It's not like it's not gonna turn into a whirling mess of insults and whatnot Yell

ChezBoy

Well, thanks for your criticism...I guess.

Ledgermayne1234

I don't think this is a good idea.

Why?

Well, you've learned how to be nice as a kid, BE A GOOD BOY OR GIRL! It really doesn't matter if you're wanting a percentage of how a good girl or boy you are.

Oh well, but thank you for stating this idea though, sorry.Frown

ChezBoy,   For the member approval rating system to function properly, we would need a good percentage of members who read and like a poster to give feedback.  Otherwise, if the majority of readers, due to complacency, fail to assign positive ratings, the organized efforts of a few hundred trolls could skew the approval ratings.  You ask why they would do this?  "Because they can" is good enough reason for some.

RonaldJosephCote

Isn't that what's happening now??  Most members post properly. The organized efforts of a few hundred trools are distroying all the forum threads.
