Everyone makes mistakes.
Are blitz players overrated?

not that big... I even don't remember when I lost against under 1700 player in blitz :). A long, long time ago

But still standard here is inflected (and online as well). Too many bot users and from book players :)
The time control was 10-0 for anyone who was wondering.
I'm actually more inclined to think you cheated rather than actually played 900 points above your rating. (It's possible you didn't, however unlikely)
"A 1700 player should not be losing to a 800 rated player in chess. It is just like a 2200 player should not be losing to a 1200...."
And when people can't cheat they hardly ever do.
I'm not really sure what you are trying to prove here, the rating system works just as well at lightning as it does as blitz as it does at standard. The rating is your average strength. While upsets are more likely to happen at faster time controls, the rating is still your average strength at that time control in that rating pool.
Wow. You are not thinking straight.
Any conclusion that I had cheated is just based on superstition. Do you know what % of the players cheat? That's right, less than 0.01%. I am no exception to this rule. Also, did you read my thoughtfull analysis on the game? Didn't think so.
The fact is, I won. I am not trying to ''prove'' anything. I am wondering why I won... How???? I was as shocked as you, except I didn't cheat, and there is evidence that supports that.
Why all the hostility?

I don't know man. I think you really just created the thread to show off your win against a much higher rated opponent rather than to contribute to the community.
That's okay to do as long as it is in the game showcase forum where it belongs and not here.

Congratulations on your win, be thankful that someone 900 pts higher than you gave you a game and move on.
To answer your question: No (although some would argue that chess.com blitz is overrated compared to ICC). I'd even say blitz is a more accurate indicator of a player's actual rating because of the lack of cheats, bots and timeouts.

Against someone rated much lower than me I would definitely try risky stuff or try out an opening I never play, stuff like this. Play a 5 game match and decide whether or not they're overrated.

Just noticed this game was unrated... when people (well, at least when I) play unrated it's because I'm drunk or I've been up 24 hours, or something like this. I mean, you did really well for your rating, good job. I wonder if you played blitz more often if it wouldn't go up. But I suspect your opponent wasn't giving 100%.

Look up my blitz rating, it sucks compared to my other ratings! LOL well I was trying to play blindfolded by setting the pieces that way on the menu for 5min-2sec games.

FireBrandX; What you said; I know how to do that on a pool table,(its a shark thing), but NOT on a chessboard.
Blitz is to slow chess as long drive competitions are to PGA tour events. They use similar pieces and equipment but are so different that no meaningful comparison can be made.

According to the above, your visual memory and visual perception are not as good as your problem solving skills; please keep in mind that you can still improve the first one.
Hello everyone.
I am garbage at blitz. I have no skill at it. When I play my regular game in a blitz match, I run out of time, even if I am winning. However, with my blitz games, I see the opponent moving quickly, and I get nervous, and follow his pace, leading to blunders, and defeats.
I have heard that the really good chess players usually get bored with standard, or online chess, and do blitz because they think they can.
My rating in blitz is 896, again, I am really bad at it.
My opponents rating was 1765. He must've been really good at it.
I won; he was not even short on time, but I was.
So I ask again, are blitz players overrated? Since the only games I have won against 1700+ are blitz, I do not take 1700+ blitz ratings at nearly the same merit that I take 1700+ standard rating.
A 1700 player should not be losing to a 800 rated player in chess. It is just like a 2200 player should not be losing to a 1200....
