Auto-Join Links

So I've seen these links around in the forums, and if you tap on them they automatically make you join the club or team :/. I was wondering if these are A.) allowed, or B.) proper etiquette? If I do this, https://www.chess.com/club/anyone-can-play-chess/join , If you tap that link it automatically makes you join the club. I wanted to know what people think about these links, or, are they even allowed? I understand you can just leave the club right after, but that is still a hassle. Any answer is appreciated =D

Good question. I dislike them myself!

VernalFire

I have been caught in a very similar situation, where I clicked on it to look at what the club was like, and instantly I was a member and I had some trouble just getting back out of it

Morgoth6

I despise them with every ounce of my soul

One, the join links shouldn't be posted in most forums/topics. If they are plain text like that and in the Clubs and Teams category then they probably aren't really forbidden, since the site provides a mechanism to create them. They also say join in the link, so that at least gives a clue to it's function.

If the link is hidden under regular text as a hyperlink, that should be reported, and certainly is not allowed.

If the links are showing up in other people's topics, that is not allowed and could be reported.

The only place where club recruitment should occur is the use of the invite mechanism in the club, in the aforementioned category (as long as it's not becoming spam with multiple topics for the same club), and within other clubs that specifically allow advertisement. Notes, chat and direct messages are not allowed.

Thanks Martin.

I hate them! So annoying. Basically encouraging spam.

Wait, are they allowed in profiles if they are hidden? On a user's profile (not gonna be saying any names) they said in big letters and bold colors, "Tap this to get 50 members a day in your club!!", but if you hover over the embedded link, it is just an auto-join link to a certain club. Not sure if it falls under  any of the above categories because while it is just on their profile, the link is very misleading. I'm at a standstill here tongue.png
