Automatic moves on chess.com

Hi - sometimes when I am playing and make a move, my opponent's next move happens instantly, like they have programmed their move as a response to my move. Does anyone know how to do that? I can't figure it out. Thank you.

It depends if you are playing live chess or correspondence chess.

For live chess, premoves are available. You have to enable them in the settings. The way they work is that after your opponent moves, your move will be made, as long as it is a legal move. (Premoves help.)

For correspondence chess, you can set up conditional moves. If your opponent does x, then you do y. If x doesn't happen, no move is made.(Conditional moves help.

Next time you can't figure something out, try the Help section. (There is a link on the bottom of every page.)

Hi - sorry I'm not too good at this, but I don't see the links for the Help section? Also the links in your post are not working for me. I was playing Daily Chess by the way. Thanks for replying.

How are you accessing the forum? The links worked great when I just tested.

I get to the forums through the "Forums" selection on the drop down menu. Nothing happens when I click on the links.
Martin_Stahl

You using the app? That might be the problem.

Edit: I just tried on the app and the links loaded. On Android at least.

Why not just try the Help section? Search for the word "premove" and then later for "conditional".

I'm using the app on an iPhone. Maybe that's the problem?
iMacChess

iPhone app is no problem. Go to settings, then go to Live Chess. Then enable pre-moves.

The problem is links from the forum opening from the app.

Thanks but I generally play correspondence chess so I think I'm looking for the "conditional move" option but I don't see that anywhere?
Martin_Stahl

In your browser go to support.chess.com and search for conditional there.

Martin_Stahl

Also, conditional moves can only be made on the web client, not the app.

Oh ok I think that's the issue then. Thanks for everyone's help!
