Blitz . . . you gotta love it!

Here's a blitz game I played waaaay back in 2004. If you look closely on move 27, although I won, you'll notice I completely missed a Mate-in-1.  Such is blitz.
(to avoid confusing Erik, I forsook the condal chessset).

I can't tell you how many times i've played blitz and felt like i played a good combination or move... only to go back and look at the game and see that the same combination or move was available for the previous bunch of moves...

Killjoy.

Nice game though.

SonofPearl

Nice game. I suspect you would kick my butt at blitz! Smile

joaoporto

Cool game- i´m waiting for many months to play a blitz with you !!!Cool

Ryan, I'm pretty mediocre and usually require a lot of help from my opponent before I can win. The game above was played 5 years ago. I'm not even sure of the time control and only knew it was blitz because blitz is all I ever played at chess.net (back then it was a free site).

edit: duh, the time control was on the original pgn. it was 5/0.

"i´m waiting for many months to play a blitz with you. . ."

I can't play blitz chess here. It's too buggy for me, especially the time stamp.

Haha, tell me about it. Yesterday I played in a team blitz tournament and in one of the games I offered a draw in timetrouble in this position (as white), and only realised when it was accepted that it was won:

Well it was won only if you didn't run out of time - then it would have been lost. Maybe a draw was the wisest option afterall.

To be fair, those bishops bare a striking resemblance to knights.

I like blitz. OTB my blitz play is better than my long. (As in, those who beat me in long, I beat in blitz.)

ADK

Ypu play very well under time pressure! I pretty much make blunder after blunder if the game is under 5 minutes in length. : D

Well, ADK, because of the short time control, blunders are common in blitz. But fortunately, they're generally not limited to one side. So a blunder doesn't necessarily spell disaster. Of course, I tend to save the blitz games I win and bury the ones I lose.

Here is another game from what seems like a few days later in July 2004 where I played Black and blundered mid-game, going down the exchange. My opponent, who seems pretty strong,  even with his material advantage lost control of the game, a blunder that proved more fatal.

I think I know what set you are talking about(but not positive).  But, I am glad that batgirl is thinking of me.

I haven't played blitz games in forever.  I don't know if I could still do it

Erikido23, while I do, of course, think of you, I was actually referring the the condal chesset I used HERE which confused another Erik.

Yes that was what I was thinking of.

There can't be an Erik more important than I?  Can there ;D

In OTB blitz I always feel like I'm in time trouble, unless I'm playing with a digital clock :P

alphastar18 don't worry, that position is a draw.  Theoretically of course.  Probably not a blitz draw though...

"Have you ever seen the one minute game mam?"

I've played 1/0, 2/0 3/0 etc. and find that anything faster than 3/0 is too fast for me and not very enjoyable.

How exactly is it a draw?

Is it? White wins after 1.Kxg3 Kd4 2.Kf3 Kc3 3.a5. If black doesn't go for the c3 pawn, it seems that white should be able win pawn b4 eventually. Where's the draw?

Youth dominates blitz!
